1. CALL TO ORDER and AGENDA

 

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Weinberger at 7:47 PM.

 

MOTION by Councilor Traverse, SECOND by City Council President Paul, to adopt the agenda.

 

VOTING: unanimous; motion carries.

 

2. CONSENT AGENDA

2.01 Motion to adopt the consent agenda and take the actions indicated

2.02 Communication: C/T Office, re: Openings-Burlington City Commissions/Boards - waive the reading, accept the communication and place it on file.

 

MOTION by City Council President Paul, SECOND by Councilor Brandt, to adopt the consent agenda and take the actions indicated for items 2.01-2.02.

 

VOTING: unanimous; motion carries.

 

3. COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS

3.01 Parks and Recreation Commission: Term Expires 6/30/23

MOTION by Councilor Dieng to nominate Lee Morrigan to the Parks and Recreation Commission.

 

MOTION by Councilor Shannon to nominate Robert Etter to the Parks and Recreation Commission.

 

MOTION by Councilor Traverse to nominate Charlie Gliserman to the Parks and Recreation Commission.

 

MOTION by City Council President Paul to nominate Joel Baird to the Parks and Recreation Commission.

 

There were no further nominations.

 

Lee Morrigan spoke about concerns that were raised regarding their candidacy, including their collaboration with those across the aisle, an outburst at a previous Council meeting regarding Sears Lane, concerns about their involvement in community oversight for policing, and concerns about a past criminal charge (that was dismissed).

 

Joel Baird spoke about his passion for parks and his interest in serving.

 

VOTING (Lee Morrigan): Councilor Barlow – aye, Councilor Bergman – aye, Councilor Brandt – nay, Councilor Carpenter – aye, Councilor Dieng – aye, Councilor Freeman – aye, Councilor Hightower – aye, Councilor Magee – aye, Councilor Shannon – nay, Councilor Traverse – nay, City Council President Paul – nay, Mayor Weinberger – nay (7 ayes, 5 nays); motion carries.

 

Lee Morrigan is now a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
